OUTREACH PROGRAMME
An outreach programme using printmaking processes is being compiled. Enquiries to Helen Brown at BIP on 01273 691496

Gift vouchers are available:

We welcome beginners to experienced artists.
Please note: It may be necessary to take more than one course in a printmaking discipline before you are able to work alone on Open Access, depending on experience.

Places are only confirmed when deposit has been paid. All deposits are non-refunadable. We accept cheques, cash, debit and credit cards as payment.

Missed classes can’t be made up at another time. Please adhere to the start and finish times of each class.

PLEASE BOOK EARLY - Small groups only 4-9 places. We provide or sell the materials required, or you can bring your own.

WEEKEND TASTERS


A concentrated introduction to the different printmaking media over a two day period. A chance to try out a medium and see if you like it, or to brush up on your technique. Basic materials are provided specialist materials are available to buy on the day.

Monoprinting is ideal for anyone comfortable with drawing and painting and is the ideal bridge to printmaking. Working first in black and white, then in ful colour, printing on the Rochet etching press large enough to accept 23 x 30 inch paper format.

Each weekend class price £130 + £10 materials

The quality of lithography is delicate and painterly. The basic principal is grease repels water. You w ill draw your images on the plate, process and print it. Be experimental with the ‘hands on’ direct drawing possibilities that lithography offers.

This introductory taster for screenprinting encourages exploration of this exciting medium through the use of paper stencils and photographic techniques.

Enjoy the freedom of drawing directly on zinc plate, ink the intaglio plate, ink the intaglio line and print on the traditional or electric etching press. Experiment with chine colle (sticking down thin Japanese papers while printing) to produce colour.

Draw and cut a block, experiment with making marks, print using the large Eagle Columbian press, or the small Albion, create immediate colour through blending inks on the roller or using the Chine Colle process i.e. attach fine coloured papers while printing.



Sarah YoungCollograph Day with Sarah Young

Class price £70 (£30 deposit)

Recycling at it‘s most creative. Achieve some astonishing results printing from plates made of card, textiles, PVA, and carborundum. Printed intaglio or relief, on damp paper through the etching press. The process produces a high quality of embossed and textural effects.

Classes consist of five or six weekly sessions. Suitable for beginners and the more experienced. The classes are designed to give participants the necessary skills and experience to work in the workshop on an open access basis at a later date.

An opportunity to experiment with hard ground, soft ground, aquatint, sugar lift, marbling and drypoint. Work on a zinc or steel plate, draw onto the metal surface and bite in a bath of nitric acid. Print on the Rochat or electric press. Add to previous experience by exploring multiple plate printing, and colour with chine colle

Explore the use of the simplest paper mask stencils, screen drawing fluid and filler. Try out photographic stencil making techniques that can incorporate tone and texture. Mix transparent and opaque inks to produce prints of stunning vibrancy and colour.


Screen Printing Inductions

Weekend inductions by arrangement with Rich Townsend. For experienced screen printers who wish to use the studio on Open Access. £90 for 2 days. Phone BIP for further details.

Examine the possibilities of type as image. Explore the use of letterpress type for simple markmaking as well as traditional typesetting and printing.

Explore the delicate and painterly potential within this technique. Be inspired by direct mark-making with traditional lithography drawing materials on the plate. Build up your image of several colour layers by repeating the process and printing or create several one-colour images in a small edition.
